The ITI has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most participants in a game jam (single location), both in 2016 and 2018
The Game Development Academy at the Information Technology Institute (ITI) is hosting the latest edition of the Global Game Jam (GGJ) for its 9th consecutive year.
The Global Game Jam is the world’s largest game jam event. This year’s event will be held on January 28-31.
GGJ is a hackathon that focuses on digital game development, which aims to “stimulate collaboration and encourage people with all types of backgrounds to participate and contribute to this global spread of game development and creativity, wrote an official statement.
“It’s a space where we give ourselves the opportunity to not care about anything in the world other than the game we're working on,” said Sherif Galal, an independent Egyptian game developer and founder of Ankh Games, who has attended every event since 2016.
ITI is hosting the event online this year, as part of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) - Egypt Chapter’s activities for the 9th consecutive year.
The ITI has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most participants in a game jam (single location), both in 2016 and 2018, with a total of 2,114 registered jammers in 2018. A total of 119 games were made at the event’s official site that year.
The Information Technology Institute is a Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) affiliated organization.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will be held entirely online this year which has let down some local developers. According to Galal, the event previously allowed developers to stay overnight at the venue until last year’s edition which “affected our community’s interaction and [I saw] less amazing people there”.
ITI is an affiliated organization to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT). Established in 1993, ITI provides world- class professional human capacity building programs, hands-on training and an exposure to the latest technology trends for university students and graduates, academia and professionals, in collaboration with a wide network of partners from the ICT industry, the academia and the community.
